The 2026 rentrée in Neuchâtel
The school year 2026–27 begins on Tuesday 1 September 2026 in the canton of Neuchâtel, covering primary schools, secondary schools and gymnasiums. The University of Neuchâtel (UniNE) and university of applied sciences (HES-SO) typically begin slightly later, in mid-September, with many students arriving during the last week of August to settle into their accommodation.
Student removals: the last-minute reality
Every year, thousands of students move to or within Neuchâtel in the final days of August. Shared flats open, university halls fill up, and the city's removal vans are booked solid. If you have not arranged transport for your boxes and bags, a taxi is a surprisingly practical solution.
AàZ Taxicab vehicles have generous boot space, and for larger loads we can arrange a minivan. A student moving from one Neuchâtel neighbourhood to another with suitcases, a computer and kitchen boxes will typically fit in a standard taxi with one or two trips.
What a taxi can carry for a student move
- Suitcases and large holdalls (standard saloon: 3–4 large bags)
- Flat-pack boxes and soft storage bags
- Bicycle transport on request (please confirm when booking)
- Minivan option for larger moves (up to 8 passengers + luggage)
First day of school: peace of mind for parents
For the first day of school, many parents want to ensure a smooth, on-time arrival — particularly for younger children starting a new school. If your usual schedule does not allow it, or if both parents are working, AàZ Taxicab can handle the school run with the same reliability and care as any other journey.
We also work with families who need regular school transport throughout the year — for children with reduced mobility, for early or late schedules, or simply for parents whose work hours make the school run impossible.
Last-minute logistics
The rentrée has a habit of throwing surprises. A forgotten school bag at the wrong address. A music instrument that needs transporting. A uniform that needs collecting from the grandparents' house. These are exactly the moments when a reliable, immediately available taxi earns its value. Call 032 724 12 12 and we will be there within 10–15 minutes.
Traffic during the rentrée week
The first week of September sees noticeably heavier traffic in Neuchâtel, particularly around schools in the morning (07:30–08:30) and afternoon (15:30–17:00). If you are driving, allow extra time. If you are taking a taxi, your driver will know the routes to avoid the worst bottlenecks.
